White Panda is a startup connecting clients in need of content to freelance content writers looking for work. The quality writers are chosen via screenings and the writers in turn get quality work as well. Here are excerpts from the interview.
1. Tell us about yourself, your background, your entrepreneurial journey and inception story of White Panda.
We are a team of four IIT Gandhinagar undergraduates from different disciplines speaking different languages, united by an urge to work and contribute something to the nation. Roshan, our CEO, realized the growing need of quality content for almost every marketing, development and sales activity. It did not take him long to notice the appalling state of the content industry in India. Writers were lucky to even get paid in trinkets, every other guy with the ability to string a sentence together called himself a writer. A change had to be brought on.
Aditya, Ashim, and Bhaskar soon joined him and we formed our core team in June 2015. As the days pass, our numbers grow and we come closer and closer to achieving our mission; cleaning up the world of online content. We chose the name White Panda, simply because itai??i??s catchy and sticks in your mind.
2. What is White Panda all about? Tell us in detail about the services offered and target segment?
We at White Panda want to simplify content creation for enterprises by removing the tedious process of screening writers, haggling for the right price and constantly needing to monitor the writer. Our platform ensures that only an eligible writer is given a job with the help of a two-step screening process that ensures. The writers, in turn, get access to a huge job feed and guaranteed payment with the freedom to work from anywhere
Our content services include writing content for short and long form blog posts, White Papers, Press Releases, Product Descriptions, Websites and Social Media. These services are targeted at almost every business with an online presence from sectors like E-commerce, healthcare, software development and many others.
3. What are the growth opportunities in this area?
Content Marketing has just caught on in India and we are penetrating the market at an ideal time. With the boom in the startup ecosystem and more and more established companies now maintaining an active blog and regularly updating content on their social media accounts, influencers looking for content to engage their followers, the list is endless. Expansion into overseas markets is also a possibility, with content in European and American markets expensive, though better in quality. These businesses are already outsourcing a lot of their content needs to India and other southeast Asian countries. This is also a very lucrative market to grasp.
4. What is your competition in the market? What is it that sets you apart from your competition? cheap viagra online, generic dapoxetine
There are few crowd-sourcing platforms like Crowdspring and Freelancer.com that allow business owners to get in touch with freelancers. But all they do is connect the business owner to the freelancer. There is no dedicated content marketplace in India that caters to Indian Businesses, providing them comprehensive content solutions. These include writing, proofreading, re-writing and reviewing the content. In the future, we also aim to provide tools to help clients measure essential metrics on their content and develop publishing tools to further reduce their need to worry about their content needs.
Overseas firms like Newscred and Contently are well established and cater to leading brands in every industry. Their services are subscription based and rates are far greater than the services we offer.
meloxicam 7.5 mg vs lortab. 5. What is the business model of White Panda? Can you briefly summarize the growth achieved in both volume and value from the Day 1 till now?
White Panda connects businesses in need of content to quality freelance writers. Once the content is submitted to us, we edit, proof-read and optimize the content so that it can be published.
We plan to broaden our services in the upcoming months including additional content services, suggestion tools and other free-to-use tools as inbound services.
We also run an active content marketing and content writing blog with a reach of almost 10000 readers. We anticipate the blog to begin earning revenue with 5-6 months through affiliate programs.
6. How has been your beginnerai??i??s journey? What were the challenges faced in setting up and scaling up your enterprise? Any hurdle that you faced or are still facing?
Our biggest hurdle was the fact that we are undergraduates. But we never used it as an excuse to justify any glitches or the speed with which we worked.
During our development phase, until April 2016, we did not have a common workspace; we worked out of our individual hostel rooms, collaborating virtually.
These factors did eventually contribute to our slow growth. But since the past two months, we have acquired office space from the administration of IIT Gandhinagar to set up operations.
7. Can you tell us about your other founders/core team, their background, and rich experience?
All our founders are undergraduates with little to no corporate or business experience. We learn on the job and while reading and interacting with fellow entrepreneurs.
However, we believe entrepreneurship is something that can never be taught. Youai??i??re born with it; the burning desire to build something on your own and walk on the road less taken.
8. How is White Panda funded? Any early stage money/seed stage experience that you would like to share with us?
White Panda is currently bootstrapped. We are in process of receiving a seed fund to develop our product and clock up respectable revenue figures to scale up our operations.
9. Any other areas or initiatives that you plan to venture in future?
We plan to explore other content opportunities overseas and develop analytics and publishing tools to further ease the process of content creation.
10. What will White Panda look like in 10 years from now? All perspectives ai??i?? people, business, revenues, team, size or anything you foresee for the venture.
In 10 years we envision White Panda to rapidly scale up and acquire the content market in Asia for all languages and lock horns with other content providers in the US and Europe.
We also plan to shift from simply a platform to a growing buzzing community of writers, poets and bloggers around the world, publishing great content, educating people around the world about content marketing and writing.
11. Any school/ campus-connect initiatives that you are pursuing or plan to pursue?
We run a White Panda Writing Internship program throughout the year that accepts talented college students and working professionals and provides them the tools to become a successful content writer and learn about content marketing. So far we have had almost 50 White Panda writing Interns.
We also run an ambassador program with students from every major college taking part and marketing White Panda on social media and in their respective communities. We have had over a 100 White Panda ambassadors
In the future, we plan to organize seminars and workshops on content writing and marketing in colleges in Gujarat and later expand to other states. We are committed to improving the quality of content writers at a grassroots level.
12. Any experience or advice you would like to share with soon to be start-up founders out there?
Itai??i??s never too early to Start-up. You will always have excuses; health, family, education. Itai??i??s your decision whether you wish to succumb to those excuses, or rise beyond them and take control of your life.
Thank you for sharing your inspiring story with us. We wish you all the best for your future endeavors.
