What is CouponRani product offering? Tell us in detail about the services offered and key clientele?
CouponRani, is an online website that deals with coupons, and offers from various online shopping stores, to help any online shopper to save on his shopping expense. We are a coupon site with 1M+ visits every month, with over more than 3350+ merchants listed on our site and over 400+ exclusive coupons, which is only present on our site. In terms of number of merchants listed we are #1 coupon site, with the most listings. We also have the only Hindi coupon site present in India. We also offer an API into our coupons for our Business Partners to display our coupons. We were featured as one of the best 60 startups in Bangalore by Inc42.
Our partners include top shopping sites like Amazon India, Flipkart, Snapdeal, PayTM, NearBuy, Healthkart, Zivame, and many more. Whether it is a small merchant or large we list all and show coupons for all of them. You will find all the latest and working coupons from these stores and more, that can be used for enjoying discounts while a shopper makes his/her payment.
We also bring great offers and deals from our partner merchants during any special occasions and festivals as we know that customers will be in a mood to go on a shopping spree.
What is your competition in the market? What is it that sets you apart from your competition?
Online Coupons and Deals, is a very competitive industry. Due to the increasing growth in E-commerce, we saw several players emerge in the market, and compete.
Our differentiation comes from 2 aspects:
We focus mainly on our customer satisfaction. We strongly believe that if our users are fully satisfied with our service, then we are sure to stay in the market no matter how high the competition level is! We had worked a lot on this metric for the past few months and we have been successful in establishing ourselves as a strong opponent to our competitors.
We excel in digital marketing and product, and know how to get traffic to our site – We have a strong team that focuses on ongoing campaigns for customers, which can drive traffic.
How has been the beginner’s journey? What were the challenges you faced in setting up and scaling up your enterprise? Any hurdle that you faced or you are still facing?
CouponRani was started off with two people on board. We started building our product from scratch. We were a Bootstrapped startup then and were incubated by Srijan Capital. Having built our product from scratch, it took us time, gave us flexibility and efficiency. As a bootstrap company, this efficiency helped us achieve more with limited resources. Slowly we expanded our team and hired talented employees, who worked hard to reach where we are now.
We continuously try out various marketing tactics and product innovation, and that helped us eventually succeed. We still face a lot of competition but we believe that nothing can stop us from our determination to reach the best.
Can you tell us about other founders/core team members, their backgrounds and rich experiences?
Ravi Trivedi- Founder, Coupon Rani
Mr. Ravi Trivedi, who is an entrepreneur, a marketer and an investor, is the founder of CouponRani. He is a growth marketer and has run Consumer and SAAS businesses in India and US.
Ravi completed his MBA from Duke University, Fuqua School of Business and has a Masters in Computer Science. Ravi started off his career as a software engineer at Hewlett-Packard and later worked in sales & marketing, consulting, product management & product development and merger integration. He has worked as an equity analyst with Bank of America where he has covered technology companies over $120B in market capitalization. Post that, he was a venture capitalist and have worked as Principal at Southeast Interactive Technology Funds. In his earlier years, he has also co-authored the book Web Services Security, and have been part of Web Service standard bodies.
Sai Kumar Sarkar is the General Manager for CouponRani. He has completed his B.Tech from NIT Jalandhar and holds a MBA in Marketing from SP Jain Center of Management, Singapore. Sai started off his career as an engineer at Nokia Mobile Phones and has worked as a business manager at Embeco IT services Ltd / Jolivi.com. He has an overall 8+ years of industry experience.
How you all are funded? Any early stage money/seed stage experience that you would like to share with us?
As mentioned earlier, we were like a Bootstrapped startup in our initial days and were incubated by Srijan Capital.
Any other areas or initiatives that you plan to venture in future?
We are planning to grow our merchant reach to make sure each and every of new ecommerce site when they start lists on our platform. We also are looking at new online channels to reach customer where they are the most, and in most convenient manner. We are currently present in Malaysia with CouponBelanja.com. We hope to grow in many more countries in the coming years.
What will CouponRani/CouponBelanja look like in 10 years from now? All perspectives – people, business, revenues, team, size or anything you foresee for the venture.
We hope to be the largest coupon site in India, and to make our presence at couple of international geographies in 10 years from now. We are completely focused on customer satisfaction, and ensure customers get working and exclusive coupons when they visit our site. We have also a chrome extension & push notifications.
What is the business model of CouponRani/CouponBalenja? Can you briefly summarize the growth achieved in both volume and value from the day1 till now?
We work on affiliate business model. We have partnered with all the leading e-commerce sites to promote their products & offers through CouponRani. With the rise in e-commerce, the affiliate business has also grown tremendously. In 2 years we have achieved 200% growth both in terms of volume & value. We have more than million visits per month at CouponRani, where people look for coupons & deals.
Any school/ campus-connect initiatives that you are pursuing or plan to pursue?
We do sponsor college events and offer exclusive coupon and gift options for the purpose. We are considering campus ambassador program, and will roll it out in the coming months.
Any experience or advice you would like to share with soon to be start-up founders out there?
My advice to fellow founders and startups would be to recognize that entrepreneurship requires perseverance and persistence, so don’t give up. Depending on the type of startup you are pursuing the failure can be as high as 95%, so be open to getting that feedback from the market and adopt.
